Much of the UK's rail infrastructure was built of traditional building
materials such as steel and over the course of time, many structures have
been severely weakened by corrosion.
This was the case at the rail bridge at Long Lawford which supports a local
road and pedestrian bridge over the mainline near Rugby. The steel pedestrian
access bridge was deemed to be no longer safe and needed replacing. The
project requirements were however, extremely demanding.
The bridge had to be totally corrosion resistant and installed with the
minimum disruption to the mainline train operations. OCS Structural Plastics
were called in to design, supply and fit a lightweight, corrosion resistant
replacement bridge, built from structural fibreglass, which proved to be
the most suitable and cost effective material for the job.
Due to the light weight of the material used in the construction, the bridge
was installed in less than 24 hours and without any disruption to operation
of the rail network. OCS Structural Plastics specialise in the design, fabrication
and installation of lightweight, corrosion resistant structural fibreglass
constructions for a wide range of industries and applications including:
