Problem - Local residents were up in arms about the odours being emitted from the treatment works at West Walton. Having identified a major cause of the odours was the inlet works, Odour Control Systems were called in to install a spray system under the inlet works covers and a peripheral spray system to atmosphere.
.
Solution - A temporary spray system was installed within a week whilst work was carried out to reduce sulphide levels under the covers to a safe working level. Initially, dosing with OCS Diox Max at a nearby pumping station, sulphides were reduced from 200ppm to 0ppm – see dosing – and work commenced on installation of the permanent system. Now the works is protected by OCS 312/SP to atmosphere while Diox 200/312 is reducing sulphide levels under the inlet covers by powerful oxidation with stabilised liquid chlorine dioxide technology.
